In de wereld spreken  250 miljoen mensen Portugees en daarmee is het de vijfde meest gesproken taal wereldwijd en de derde in de Westerse wereld. Bovendien is Portugees de meest gesproken taal in Zuid-Amerika (188 miljoen moedertaalsprekers, 51% van de bevolking).

 

 

Portugees is de officiële taal van 9 landen in vier werelddelen:

Europa:Portugal
Afrika:Angola, Guiné Bissau, Kaapverdische Eilanden, Mozambique en São Tomé e Príncipe
Zuid-Amerika:Brazilië
Azië:  Oost Timor  (samen met de lokale taal “Tetum”) en Macau (samen met Chinees).

Portugees is verder de officiële taal van CPLP (Comunidade de Países de Língua Portuguesa: Angola, Brazilië, Kaapverdische Eilanden, Guiné Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé e Príncipe en Oost Timor) en van PALOP (Países Africanos da Língua Oficial Portuguesa: Angola, Kaapverdische Eilanden, Guiné Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé e Príncipe),União Africana, van de Europese Unie en van de Merconsul.

Why learn Portuguese? 

Portuguese is spoken by around 250 million people in the world, is the fifth most spoken language in the world and the third in the Western world. 

According to Wikipedia, Portuguese is the most widely spoken language in South America with 188 million native speakers making up 51% of the population.

Portugal is an ideal holiday destination. Reached in less than three hours by air from the Netherlands, it is one of the oldest countries in Europe with many historical and beautiful monuments, beautiful beaches and landscapes, good food and wine and lovely weather.

Portuguese is the official language of 8 countries: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde Islands, Guiné Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé e Príncipe and East Timor. It is also an official language with Chinese in the special Chinese administrative region of Macau and it has the same status as Tetum in East Timor.
